Reedy Dunn at Pearl Harbor
Reedy Dunn at Pearl Harbor, originally uploaded by mariecarnes.
Who is Reedy Dunn? Who was Reedy Dunn? I know very little about Reedy Dunn. What I do know about him could fill a thimble. He was a man. He was at Pearl Harbor in the early 1930s. And, that's about it.
When I uploaded that photo about a year ago, I did a Google search for Reedy Dunn with no results. I did another search today and found him in a 1970s photo in a book about Plano, Texas by Nancy McCulloch. That is a much older Reedy Dunn. Could there be more than one Reedy Dunn? I'm thinking not. It could be the same one. If so, I imagine he has left this world. Did he leave any survivors? I don't know. But, I think Reedy Dunn would make a great name for a character in an adventure novel. Time for someone to fill in the blanks.
When John Stossel is Away…
…the anti- bias of ABC News comes out to play.
As much as I sympathize with them in tonight’s 20/20 report, and frown upon the mishandling of firearms (in which I also question the integrity of the producers in their efforts to “prove a point”), the overall message of the report was more of the same rhetoric from the anti- lobby. The rights side of the argument — representing lawful citizens who legally own firearms for self-defense, wasn’t even represented.
Instead of calling for stricter laws and the repeal of the Second Amendment to the Constitution, let’s start with enforcing the laws already on the books.
Why not hold criminals who obtain without respect to the law accountable? Of the recent stories of violence referenced in the report, the producers didn’t even mention the shooting deaths of the Oakland, CA police officers at the hands of a convicted felon who already violated the terms of his parole by carrying a black-market gun. It’s always those who follow the law that are considered menaces to society.
Nobody enjoys hearing about accidents from the mishandling of . However, doing away with the right to keep and bear arms through restrictive laws and confiscation (which do nothing to take out of the hands of criminals) isn’t the answer.
Hopefully, Stossel will rebut the biased reporting of Diane Sawyer soon when he’s back on the air.
